- Radiant-Cut Diamond
- A radiant-cut combines the generally square length-to-width ratios of an emerald-cut with the triangular faceting of a brilliant-cut. Trimmed corners are the signature of this fancy-shaped diamond, and they also make the diamond very versatile.
- Report, Diamond Grading
- Each diamond has had one of these reports created by a gemologist, or gemologists, from one of the world's foremost grading laboratories, either the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or the American Gem Society Laboratories (AGS). The gemologist has scrutinized the diamond and placed it under a microscope to analyze its dimensions, clarity, proportions, color, finish, symmetry, and other characteristics and documented them in a report. All of our diamonds come accompanied by one of the following specific types of reports; a GIA Diamond Grading Report, a GIA Diamond Dossier®, or an AGSL Diamond Quality Document.
- Rhodium
- An expensive metal alloy commonly applied as an incredibly hard, protective coating to sterling silver and white gold. This coating offers the advantages of making these white metals even whiter, and preventing tarnish.
- Ring Setting
- Collective term for the shank and the head of a ring which contains no center stone.
- Ring Size
- A measurement, generally between 4 and 13, determined by two factors: the diameter of the finger on which the ring will be worn, and the knuckle which the ring must slip over comfortably.
- Rolo Chain
- A chain style featuring uniform, round links. Similar to a cable chain, but designed to lay flatter.
- Rope Chain
- A chain comprised of a series of small, oval-shaped precious metal links that are designed to resemble a woven rope.
- Rose Gold
- Rose gold gets its color from a larger proportion of copper in the metal alloy. This gives the gold a beautiful pink color.
- Round Diamond
- This classic diamond shape is most popular for diamond engagement rings. The cut arrangement and proportions of the round diamond are based on the 57-facet design (58, if the culet is flattened) established in 1919 by diamond cutter Marcel Tolkowsky. Today, round diamond cut is graded based on proportions and diamond quality standards established by the American Gem Society Laboratories (AGSL).
- Round Pearl
- The most common shape for use in pearl jewelry. Round pearls are available in cultured, Akoya, freshwater, or South Sea varieties.
- Roundness
- An evaluation criteria for round pearls. They can be graded as all-round, mostly-round, slightly off-round, and off-round.
- Ruby
- Ruby is the red variety of corundum, and in the same family of stones as sapphire. Rubies are red by definition and one of the most valuable of precious gemstones. Ruby is the birthstone for July.
- Ruthenium
- A hard white acid-resistant metallic element that is found naturally in platinum ores. It's used to harden platinum and palladium to create more wear-resistant jewelry.
